Dark Light
In a battle that feels insurmountable, only perseverance guides you forward. Trust in oneself is vital, even when all seems lost.

As I grasped the weight of the sword, its cold metal biting into my palm, a sense of resignation washed over me. The battle was already lost, the tides turned against us. However, a flicker of hope ignited within me—I still had a chance to escape, to survive. Determination surged through my veins as I mustered the strength to rise from the ground, ready to face the onslaught that surrounded me.

The grotesque creatures, driven by an unrelenting fury, clashed with unwavering ferocity, their distorted forms hurling themselves at any human unfortunate enough to cross their path. Even the prospect of escaping their clutches seemed insurmountable. Yet, amidst the chaos, I couldn’t help but feel a heavy burden of responsibility. The kingdom was on the brink of collapse, and I was powerless to halt its descent. The weight of my helplessness bore down upon me, suffocating my spirit. How could I protect those I cherished if I couldn’t even protect myself?

As I staggered to my feet, my eyes were greeted by a gruesome sight—a companion struck by the vile weapon crafted from wood and stone, the sickening thud reverberating through the air. The metallic tang of blood caressed my senses, a chilling reminder of the brutality that surrounded me. The room swarmed with even more of these abominable creatures, their presence oozing malevolence. In that moment, as despair threatened to consume me, I made a decision. I chose to surrender to the flow of life, to abandon my doubts and embrace the path laid out before me. No longer would I entertain futile conjectures about what I could or couldn’t accomplish. It was time to confront the voice that presumed to dictate my future.

In that instant, everything shifted. The world transformed, as if it had always existed in this altered state. The crackling flames in the fireplace danced in languid motion, each flicker elongated in time. The creatures, frozen in their violent gestures, were suspended in a temporal stasis, while I alone possessed the freedom to move unhindered. A surge of bewildered awe coursed through me. What sorcery was this?

My mind emptied, the cacophony of the battlefield fading into insignificance. The once menacing creatures, rendered impotent by an unseen force, no longer instilled fear within us. This was my moment to act, to embrace the path I had accepted. I relinquished my doubts and seized the opportunity to live in the present, unburdened by the shackles of impossibility.

With a resolute determination, I swung my sword, severing the grotesque heads of the creatures with swift precision. Each strike was executed with a fervent passion, a bead of sweat cascading down my cheek, mingling with the warmth of triumph. The insurmountable obstacle that loomed over me mere moments ago dissolved into insignificance—a problem conquered and vanquished.

Amidst the aftermath, a gentle light captured my attention, its ethereal glow enveloping my senses. It felt like a wordless message resonating within my mind, a silent reassurance that it was here, whatever “it” may be, and it would not release its hold on me.

Then, abruptly, the world snapped back into its normal rhythm. My sword, now drenched in the crimson evidence of battle, clattered to the ground, and the once formidable creatures crumbled, lifeless. The bewildered faces of my comrades mirrored my own confusion. None of us could fathom the inexplicable events that had just unfolded, including myself. Yet, amidst the bewilderment, I understood that the enigma held no significance. There were others who relied on my aid, others

I had a duty to rescue from this nightmarish fate.

And so, with newfound resolve and a glimmer of faith, I pressed forward, prepared to face whatever challenges awaited me. The future remained uncertain, but within the depths of my being, I carried the indomitable spirit to confront adversity and protect those who depended on me.
